A funny thing happened at camp 1 the night before we went to venture for the top of fishers peak.About 10pm at the camp and after dinner was over and the camp fire was going, the horses were making noise and steve went to check on them. I was playing my harmonica and steve called us out to where he was, we went out and all you can see was a very bright light and the whole parrie was lite up and you could see everything for miles. Steve then asked me thought there was supposed to be no vehicles were supposed to be up here this far, and i told him nothing could get past the 4 miles of wooded forest that we came up. And i also said that there was no noise and that a vehicle could never have that bright of light, and we thought helocopter or something but everything was very quiet and lets just go back to camp and we did. And just let it go cause there was no place to go anyway.Eveyrthing was cool after that and the lights went away.

Don't ask me

After a very exhausting 2 day trip for the first time trip.
Tony, Steve, and I experinces a very improtant lession that we will never forget. No 1 is leave early enough so that you have time to find base camp at the cabin or camp 1 at the trees overlooking the morley mineing town, which was a lucky guess on my part. You see you will always have techinical difficulties which is least not to be expected. For example, when we left the parking lot to start our first journey to find the cabin that the game warden explained to us how to get there which is after you past dorthy lake stay on the trail leading into the trees for 4 miles that was very rough terrian and steep hills that we found out for ourselfs he didn't tell us about that, and we had a very rough time. When we seen the open path out of the trees and first seen the mesa we went own till we found the 1st pond and stopped there for a break for us and the horses. The pond has live catfish in there that some people pack up there and supply the pond, they can live out of water for a long time. Always take more then 1 compas just in case like use we lost it somewhere in the trees we just came out of, so we carried on from pure guessing where we werelooking for any site of trees which there was nothing for miles just open mesa, and then we got lost. Opon seeing our first site of trees through our binoculars and headed for them, found another pond seen some cattle and went past the trees and found a torn down barn in a little valley no aspen no cabin. By that time there was nothing but open mesa for miles and we were losing daylight fast. So we went the other wat with the sun behind us and i spotted some more trees with the sun to our backs in a long distance thinking west now and that was the only cover and still have time to spare, and we headed for them. There were a lot of very deep ruts that we had to go around but i keep a eye on those trees not to loose them. After a hour riding we were in trouble because the trees were about 4 miles away and the sun was falling fast and also it started getting real cloudy and cold and stopped and put on our jackets/coats after another hour riding the clouds fell on us and we were loseing the trees but was in line with them, then it started raining a little and a thick fog or something moved in and we lost the trees. I told the fellas lets run for it cause they were now closer and we went for it they were only about a mile away now and the rain really came down and all of a sudden it stopped raining and the fog had gone and we where about 50 yards from the trees and soaked. Steve notice that Tony lost his sleeping bag and the clouds broke up and was real clear and we back tracked where we came from and found the item he had lost in the race for safty and shelter. After repacking tonys stuff we headed back for the trees and found a nice cove to that had a few dead trees on the ground and un saddled the horses and quickly gathered fire wood and made my fire ring to start us a fire to dry ourself off. At that time we had enough wood to last us all night and a nice big fire going using the lava rock to inclose the fire and pulled out the big steaks that Steve provided for our dinner and he even a grill for the ocassion, took some pictures of the sunset and setteled down for the night warm and full ( ribeye steak and bake potatos and beans) compliments of Main Street Bakery.  And that is how we found Camp 1.
